Dr. Derksen has called Dallas home for many years after moving to Texas in the early 1990s. After graduating from Southern Methodist University with a Bachelors Degree in Business, Dr. Derksen decided to pursue his long time dream of entering the dental profession by applying to dental school. In 2009, Dr. Derksen earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from Boston University's Goldman School of Dental Medicine graduating Magna Cum Lade. Upon graduation, Dr. Derksen returned to Dallas and completed 3 additional years of specialized training in Prosthodontics at Texas A&M University's Baylor College of Dentistry, which he completed in 2012. In addition to receiving a certificate in Prosthodontics, Dr. Derksen also earned a Masters in Science for his research on a new dental implant surface technology.
The field of prosthodontics is a specialized area of restoring and replacing teeth. Acting as the quarterback to develop ideal treatment plans, prosthodontists collaborate with other dental specialists to create solutions specific to the patient's dental concerns and needs. The additional training undergone by a prosthodontist allows for them to concentrate on the important functional demands of the oral cavity while at the same time focusing on the esthetic needs of the patient. This allows the doctor to make restorations and reconstructions that are both pleasing and natural in appearance.
Services provided by Dr. Derksen include but are not limited to: crowns and bridges, implant crowns and bridges, veneers, composite restorations, complete and partial dentures, implant supported and retained dentures, and occlusal therapy and sleep apnea devices. Dr. Derksen is partnered with Dr. Frank Higginbottom, who has run a successful restorative dental practice in Dallas for nearly 40 years. Additional to private practice, Dr. Derksen is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Restorative Sciences Department at Baylor College of Dentistry. Dr. Derksen holds memberships in numerous professional organizations including the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, Dallas County Dental Society, and the American College of Prosthodontists.
