Profile

William Blake knew the potency of bringing words and images together. And so do the folks behind the Reading Room, a multi-purpose project space in Fair Park right across from Cotton Bowl. Their mission is both simple and limitless—explore the interaction of the verbal and visual arts through exhibitions, performances, lectures, and panel discussions. Last year, the Room hosted a Bloomsday event featuring readings from James Joyce’s Ulysses and a screening of Harrell Fletcher’s Blot Out the Sun, a video reworking of the novel set in a Portland auto garage. Earlier this year, they had the brilliant notion of holding a book swap with random readings and cocktails. We’d drink to literacy any day.
