SMU’s Hamon Arts Library offers a far-reaching collection of music, art, and theater to the Dallas public. The library’s first floor also houses the Mildred Hawn Exhibition Gallery, an art space that displays a variety of archival art, including works on canvas, photography, drawings, and mixed media art. A selection of the Hawn Gallery’s exhibition material comes from the school’s Jerry Bywaters Special Collection, as well as works by students, faculty, community sources, and other SMU collections. Exhibits at the Hawn Exhibition Gallery can last from six weeks to three months, so the gallery only hosts three or four exhibitions each year. Past exhibits have included Southwestern landscapes by David Dreyer and caricatures of 19th-century English statesmen from Vanity Fair.
