Profile

For more than 25 years, the African American Museum has devoted itself to the preservation and display of art and historical documents that reflect the African-American experience, with an emphasis on Dallas and the Southwest. The four vaulted galleries house art, magazine, historical, political, and community archives as well as one of the largest collections of African-American folk art in the country. The museum also contains a research library, theater, studio art area, classrooms, and gift shop. Permanent exhibitions include Freedman’s Cemetery, Sankofa, the Black Texas Hall of Fame, and the Dallas Black Teachers Hall of Fame.
