Dr. Scott de Villeneuve is a board-certified general surgeon specializing in laparoscopic, or minimally invasive, surgery. Conditions he routinely treats include gallbladder disease, appendicitis, colon and other GI cancers, as well as skin and soft tissue tumors. He is currently the senior member of Surgical Associates of North Texas and primarily sees patients in the McKinney, Allen, and Frisco areas.
In private practice since 2004, Dr. de Villeneuve is often sought after for his expertise with laparoscopic hernia repair, a newer, less invasive technique. With traditional hernia surgery, patients have a more lengthy recovery time and can experience significant pain after surgery. With laparoscopic surgery, significantly smaller incisions are made where the laparoscope is inserted to visualize the hernia defect. Small instruments are then used to return the contents of the hernia to their normal anatomic location. The incisions are typically less than a half-inch long and not visible six months after surgery. Using this less-invasive approach cuts the recovery period in half, allowing patients to resume normal activity in a few days to weeks.
During his residency and time in practice, Dr. de Villeneuve has had extensive exposure to and experience using a variety of techniques for laparoscopic herniorraphy and performs more than 350 laparoscopic hernia repairs annually.
