Dr. Don Buford has been in practice in Dallas for 14 years and has been voted multiple times by Dallas physicians as one of the best orthopedic surgeons in D Magazine’s Best Doctors in Dallas issue.
Dr. Buford graduated from the University of Southern California, where in 1988, he was named the Woody Hayes NCAA Division I Academic All-American Award recipient which recognized the country’s outstanding NCAA Division I male student-athlete. After graduation, he signed his first professional baseball contract with the Baltimore Orioles and also enrolled at UCLA Medical School. Dr. Buford played professional baseball for four years before returning to finish medical school. Dr. Buford completed a five-year orthopedic residency at UT Southwestern in Dallas. After residency, Dr. Buford completed a sports medicine fellowship at the prestigious Southern California Orthopaedic Institute (SCOI). He often draws on his own athletic experiences in caring for his patients, whether or not they are athletes, and strives to return everyone back to their activities as soon as possible. Dr. Buford takes care of patients with knee and shoulder injuries and specializes in arthroscopic surgery.
Dr. Buford specializes in arthroscopic shoulder and knee surgery and is very involved in surgeon education and in new product development. He has served on the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA) Education and Admissions Committees. He lectures nationally and internationally on arthroscopic shoulder surgery topics and has published many articles and book chapters on shoulder surgery. Currently, he also is a reviewer for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. He has also appeared on Fox News in the Dallas area and on the Good Morning Texas television show.
Dr. Buford founded the Dallas PRP and Stem Cell Institute (PASC Institute) with the goal of combining a research institute with a clinical staff that would be able to provide patients with all of the cutting edge nonsurgical and surgical options for musculoskeletal injuries under one roof. By closely following clinical results from these regenerative therapies, the clinicians at the PASC Institute hope to further refine the indications and treatments for many musculoskeletal conditions. Our ultimate goal is to maximize our patients' quality of life and minimize their disability from any musculoskeletal condition.
He also founded Orthotalk, Inc., a nonprofit corporation that promotes continuing orthopedic education. Currently, Orthotalk, Inc. sponsors an ongoing CME series of musculoskeletal ultrasound training courses for all musculoskeletal clinicians.
The Las Vegas MSK Ultrasound Course is a biannual MSK Ultrasound Training Course chaired by orthopedists (Drs. Don Buford and Ben DuBois) and has been attended by over 500 clinicians over the past 8 years.
