Since 1984, Undermain Theatre has been housed in the basement of a century-old building in Deep Ellum. The small theater, which can seat around 80, sits underneath the historic Interstate Forwarding Company building on Main Street—hence the name Undermain. In addition to the vintage digs, Undermain has another piece of history: the chairs came from the Kalita Humphreys Theater, designed by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Undermain acquired the seating from the Dallas Theater Company in the late ’80s, and we consider it some of the comfiest in town.
