By depicting their experiences on stage, Uptown Players aims to connect with an audience living contemporary and alternative lifestyles. Since its 2001 debut, the theater company has received acclaim and awards—including a Best of Big D in 2009—while slowly developing an annual audience base of more than 10,000 patrons.
The works produced at Uptown range from critically acclaimed dramas such as Peter Schaffer’s Equus to musicals such as Hair or even a stage adaptation of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Five productions make up the season, and each runs for three or four weeks. There’s also Broadway Our Way, the annual Uptown Players fundraiser held each January.
