The Dallas Theater Center is the most prolific theater company in the city. DTC staged its first production in 1959 (Tom Wolfe’s Of Time and the River) and hasn’t taken a break since, bringing a never-ending array of quality theater to Dallasites for more than half a century. Shows that have hit the DTC stage include classics by playwrights of many eras, from William Shakespeare to Charles Dickens to Tennessee Williams. Well-known pieces such as Death of a Salesman are intertwined with new works (including an increasing number of commissions and plays with Broadway pedigrees) to keep audiences interested.

Since the curtain first opened in the ’50s, the company had performed in architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s Kalita Humphreys Theatre, a historic landmark on Turtle Creek Boulevard. But in 2009, DTC moved into the Arts District, taking residence in the new Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre at the AT&T Performing Arts Center. Although most shows now play on the Wyly stage, some productions still find their way back to the DTC’s former home.
