Profile

It’s round two for Octane, which originally did business (and closed) in West Village. Owned by Ort Varona (the man behind the first incarnation of Octane and Victory Park’s now-closed LFT) and Michael Cingrani, the boutique offers ladies cocktail dresses in the $200 range, denim, stylish-but-comfy basics from LnA, and a small but delightful collection of jewelry, scarves, and sunglasses. More important is the men’s department, a chic space for guys to find European-style button-downs, blazers, and quality jeans. (Trust Original Octane as a source of denim expertise.) Check out the collections from Neuw, rvts, and limited-edition pants from Prps. Then head to the in-store hemming station. Get your new jeans tailored for $10 on the vintage sewing machine, which was used in the 1960s for alterations on the Levi’s factory floor. If you fall in love with any of the furniture, it’s likely you can buy it off the floor. Just ask.

Update: Original Octane has moved from 3120 Knox St. to 4539 Travis St.
