After opening a bookstore in California in 2002, owners Jorge Alvarez and Gilbert Burrola decided to bring their business east. They settled in with a new location in Gainesville, Texas, but soon after the lure of the big city became too hard to ignore. So, in 2008, the pair introduced Dicho’s to Dallas, a small, independent bookstore that sells a range of merchandise despite a relative lack of shelf space. Alvarez and Burrola handpick every book in stock at Dicho’s, where you can browse through bestsellers, out-of-print works, Texas and regional items, Spanish-language books, and more. Dicho’s also offers a sizable children’s section, keeping kids glued to the pages with memorable characters and luminous illustrations. Even though Dicho’s can’t keep up with the big bookstores in terms of selection, the store will special order any book it doesn’t carry and ship it directly to you at no extra cost.
