Zion Lutheran School’s mission is to provide a quality Christ-centered education. Zion was founded in 1879 and has been educating children in the Dallas area for more than 100 years. Since moving to its present location at Lovers Lane and Skillman in 1957, Zion has undergone several renovations, most recently in 2015, adding three classrooms, a music room, and new school offices.
At Zion, a sense of “Christian family and community” exists among students, teachers, and families. The school promotes a partnership in education enabling children to experience growth in every way–spiritually, mentally, physically, socially, and emotionally. Zion boasts strong academics with students consistently scoring in the top two percent of the ITBS (Iowa Test of Basic Skills) when compared against schools nationwide. A Zion education also includes computer technology, Spanish, physical education, art, drama, and music. Every student in Kindergarten through eighth grade participates in a choir. Extracurricular programs, such as band and athletics, are offered beginning in fifth grade.
Zion Lutheran School is fully licensed and accredited and has an “Excellent” rating from the National Lutheran School Accreditation (NLSA) which is recognized by the Texas Education Association (TEA). Zion Lutheran School offers Christian education to students of all denominations and faiths. While the curriculum is taught from a Lutheran perspective, a vast majority of subject matters are taught in agreement with many other Christian denominations.
