All parents want the best education for their children, but for the parents of children with various learning differences, Asperger’s Syndrome, or ADHD, a quality education is often more difficult to obtain. Great Lakes Academy is a nonprofit private, college-preparatory school in Plano, which was specifically designed to meet the individual needs of learning-different students with average to above-average intelligence.
GLA’s mission is to create an environment that is innovative, positive, and structured in such a way that all students will enjoy going to school and be afforded every opportunity for success, both socially and academically. The academic curriculum is TEKS-based, enriched, with accommodations to fit individual learning styles. GLA utilizes traditional and multi-sensory teaching methods in all subject areas, including art, PE, and social skills lessons. With a maximum of 10 students per class, the students are able to receive individualized attention and the opportunity to achieve their potential.
