Texas native family law attorney Sally Pretorius is a 2009 graduate of Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas. Sally has always been passionate about helping others and has practiced family law since 2010 when she transitioned from civil litigation. Sally has represented numerous clients both in and out of the courtroom as they face what is often the most difficult part of their lives. Her passion is to help children make the best transition possible.
Sally enjoys the “people side” of the practice, and especially loves the litigation aspect of being a family law attorney. When she is not in the courtroom, she enjoys coaching law students in mock trial competitions and guest lecturing at the law school on litigation topics. Sally is a natural public speaker, who during law school helped her mock trial team win the regional level, and advance to the semi-final round of the national level of the ABA Labor and Employment competition.
Prior to joining KoonsFuller, Southlake office, Sally practiced family law in Austin, Texas with the Law Office of Becky Beaver and Andrae Law, PLLC, where she gained 1st chair family law experience successfully taking several matters to final trial, handling complicated temporary orders issues and complex discovery matters, including issues concerning conservatorship, child support and extremely high dollar estates.
Sally dedicates much of her spare time to the Texas Young Lawyers Association where she serves on the board of directors, and was awarded the Director of the Year award in 2014 and the First Year Director of the Year award in 2013. As Director for the TYLA, she has spear-headed and participated in numerous projects including: Educating Educators, E-news, A Lawyer’s Guide to Social Media; A Welcoming Home: Be a Foster Family; the Family Law Toolkit; chaired the National Trial Competition, and served on the Health and Fitness initiative committee. Sally was recently voted to the Executive Committee of TYLA as Secretary with her term to serve in the 2015/2016 bar year.
In North Texas, Sally is a member of the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers where is a participant in the 2014 Leadership Class, a member of the Junior League of Dallas where she will serve as a Provisional Advisor for the 2015/2016 Junior League year, and an involved member of the Dallas Museum of Art Junior Associates.
Additionally, while in Austin, Sally served on the Austin Young Lawyers Association Board of Directors-where she was also awarded the Director of the Year award in 2011; was a member of the first AYLA/Austin Bar Association Leadership Academy helping to raise over $35,000.00 in the first ever Pro Bono Prom; co-chaired the Leadership Academy for two years; helped found and chair the first ever AYLA Trial Academy; served on the Austin Bar Gala committee for four years; chaired the social service portion of the Women’s Resource Fair for four years; was a member of the Junior League of Austin; was selected and completed the Leadership Austin Emerge Program; and volunteered regularly with the Volunteer Legal Services of Austin.
For fun, Sally enjoys spending time with her two “hunting dogs”- Roxy, a miniature dachshund and Molly, a rescue German Short Haired Pointer; running half and full marathons; traveling with her husband and shopping for shoes as extreme cardio.
