Kathryn Murphy has been consistently selected one of Texas’ Top 50 women attorneys, one of the Top 100 Attorneys in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and one of the Top 100 Attorneys in the state. She has also been frequently selected one of the Best Lawyers in Dallas in a D Magazine survey and as a Texas Super Lawyer in Texas Monthly. She is listed in Best Lawyers in America. Kathryn has been has been elected Chair to the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Texas. She has also been named 2015 and 2017 Best Lawyers® "Lawyer of the Year" for Family Law in Dallas/Fort Worth by U.S. News & World Report.
Kathryn is a partner in the law firm of Goranson Bain, whose practice is limited to matrimonial law. She is Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. She is a member of the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists and a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and Texas Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, where she is a Past President. She is the chair secton of the Family Law Council of the State Bar of Texas, and she has served on the District 1A Grievance Committee.
Kathryn has extensive trial experience in family law, she practices collaborative law, and she is a frequent author and speaker on family law issues, including alimony, property matters, child support, relocation, business valuations, premarital agreements and electronic evidence.
Kathryn is the primary researcher and writer of the book, Protecting Your Assets From a Texas Divorce, which was published in 2005. She co-authored West Publishing Company’s Texas Family Law Practice Guide, a three-volume family law treatise for attorneys that was published in March 2000 and supplemented each year since. She also taught family law at Southeastern Paralegal Institute in Dallas.
Kathryn recently received the Annette Stewart Inn of Court, Serjeant of the Inn Award, an award to an attorney who has made significant contributions to the legal profession and the community.
Kathryn is married and she is proud of her 2 wonderful children, Kyle and Ally, as well as her step-children, son-in-law and 2 grandchildren.
