Suparna Basu, MD is a board certified psychiatrist. She has a strong psychopharmacologic background as well as a special interest in various modalities of psychotherapy. She treats patients keeping in mind the impact of social, psychological, and behavioral factors on general health and quality of life. She has a wealth of experience in areas including but not limited to the areas of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, OCD and PTSD. Her treatment emphasizes helping people heal and not just treating them as diagnostic cases. She is very passionate about removing the stigma associated with mental illness and treating the mind and body as a whole entity. Dr. Basu attended medical school at the Institute of Medicine in Kathmandu, Nepal (Tribhuvan University). She completed her residency in psychiatry at North Shore Long Island Jewish Hospital in Glen Oaks, New York. She has had experience working in a psychiatric emergency room, performing psychiatric evaluations for both adult and child from all walks of life and all psychiatric disorders. After completing her residency she gained a full time position as an outpatient psychiatrist at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Harrison, New York. She speaks English, Hindi, Nepalese, and Bengali. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, traveling, cooking, and watching movies.
