Dr. Bidiwala treats a full array of neurosurgical disorders, from herniated disks of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine to tumors and vascular malformations of the brain and spinal cord. As an attending neurosurgeon at one of Dallas’ two level-1 trauma centers, he has extensive experience in the emergency treatment of injuries to the brain, spine, and spinal cord.
Before his neurosurgical training, Dr. Bidiwala obtained bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering and was actively involved in research applying electronics, image processing, and neural networks to complex problems in medicine.
Dr. Bidiwala’s patients benefit from his background, as it fuels his interest in using cutting-edge technological advances in neurosurgery. Dr. Bidiwala uses minimal-access approaches with spinal cord and nerve root monitoring during spinal surgery and is trained in the implantation of artificial cervical and lumbar disks. He also has ready access to Baylor’s new intraoperative MRI suite and uses the latest awake mapping techniques for the resection of brain tumors and implantation of deep brain stimulation devices for Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor. Dr. Bidiwala has privileges to use the Gamma Knife, CyberKnife, and Novalis radiosurgery units for the incisionless treatment of tumors and vascular malformations of the brain and spine. Dr. Bidiwala’s patients undergo a thorough diagnostic workup and participate in a detailed discussion regarding their diagnoses and treatments. Surgery is typically pursued only after appropriate conservative treatment, including physical therapy and pain management for spinal conditions, and careful observation for nonurgent brain and spinal cord diseases. Dr. Bidiwala is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery.
