Mitchell J. Magee, M.D.
Dr. Mitchell J. Magee is a board certified cardiothoracic surgeon who serves as the Surgical Director of Thoracic Oncology and the Minimally Invasive Therapy Institute for Lung and Esophagus at Medical City Dallas.
He is a member of Southwest Cardiothoracic Surgeons whose practice philosophy is to deliver compassionate world-class care to patients by providing them access to innovative therapies and state of the art techniques.
Dr. Magee is the first surgeon in North Texas to perform minimally invasive laparoscopic and thoracoscopic surgeries for cancers of the lung, esophagus and mediastinum. His practice now focuses on general thoracic surgery with a specialization in thoracic oncology and minimally invasive surgery.
In 2007, Dr. Magee returned to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Heart, Lung and Esophageal Surgery Institute to complete additional fellowship training in minimally invasive surgery. Previously, he completed a thoracic surgery residency at UPMC, his internship and general surgery residency at the University of Southern California, a research fellowship at M.D. Anderson and his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston.
A committed researcher through the Cardiopulmonary Research Science and Technology Institute (CRSTI), Dr. Magee is a sought after speaker and lecturer at
numerous national meetings and has authored over 80 peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters. He is active on committees in multiple professional societies including the American College of Surgeons (ACS), the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC), the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT), the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), the American Association of Thoracic Surgery (AATS), the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association (STSA), and the General Thoracic Surgery Club (GTSC).
Dr. Magee has been honored by D Magazine as one of Dallas’ best doctors in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 as well as a Texas Monthly SuperDoc. He and his family have lived in Dallas since 1998. He is a native Texan.
