Eitan Podgaetz, MD, MPH has a professional goal to identify the best treatments for his patients – tailoring therapy by considering not only the disease, but also the personal situation of each patient and family.
Dr. Podgaetz completed medical school at La Salle University School of Medicine in Mexico City. He moved to the United States to complete his internship in general surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. From there he continued his training at Mayo Clinic and George Washington University in Washington D.C. It was there he found interest in thoracic oncology, treating pulmonary, esophageal and mediastinal tumors leading him to complete a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA.
Dr. Podgaetz believes and promotes the benefits of minimally invasive thoracic surgery (VATS and Robotic) for his patients as this helps accelerate recovery, minimize pain and shorten hospital stay. One recent area of interest is Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) for thoracic surgery. This multimodal strategy synergistically helps patients recover faster and regain their full preoperative functional status sooner.
He has been teaching since 2003 and is committed to surgical education, helping the new generations of young surgeons learn and become proficient in thoracic surgery diseases. Dr. Podgaetz has authored multiple peer reviewed publications, articles, chapters, abstract and presentations at national and international meetings.
He enjoys spending time with family, traveling, cycling and reading/audiobooks.
