David P. Mason, MD is board certified in General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Mason was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. He attended Harvard College and earned his medical degree from the Columbia College of Physicians & Surgeons in 1994. He completed his general surgical training at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. During his general surgical training, he also performed a research fellowship in vascular surgery at the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Mason joined the staff of the Division of Thoracic Surgery of John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland in 2003. He joined the staff of the Department of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio in 2004 where he served as a Staff Surgeon from 2004-2014. Dr. Mason’s practice encompasses all areas of general thoracic surgery and lung transplantation. He has received many awards including Teacher of the Year in the Department of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, Thoracic Surgical Alumnus of the Year from Harvard Medical School and Brigham & Women’s Hospital, the Mentor Recognition Award at the Cleveland Clinic, and the Roche Presidential Student Mentor Award from the American Society of Transplant Surgeons. Dr. Mason sits on several committees and professional societies including the Joint Commission for Thoracic Surgery Education, the Thoracic Organ Committee of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, the Interventional Chest/Diagnostic Procedures Network Steering Committee of CHEST and the International Advisory Committee of the American Association of Thoracic Surgery just to name a few. He has authored numerous peer reviewed articles and book chapters in all areas of thoracic surgery. Dr. Mason is married with four children. Their family enjoys outdoor activities such as biking, skiing, and all water sports. He keeps fit through running and weight training
