Dr. Arun Badi is one of only three sleep medicine specialists in the Dallas area and one of only a few in the world who is also a board-certified otolaryngologist. Because of this dual specialty, he is a sought-after choice for treating pediatric and adult airway, sinus disease, and comprehensive nonsurgical and surgical treatment of sleep apnea and snoring. “Most sleep medicine specialists treat either adults or children, and I treat both,” Dr. Badi says. “Children with sleep apnea are often misdiagnosed, and my child was a sick baby–both of these reasons inspired me to pursue this field of medicine.”
Dr. Badi often jokes that he has saved many marriages due to successfully treating patients who snore. “Snoring is much more than an inconvenience,” he says. “It can lead to several health issues and can eventually affect the heart, lungs, and brain. If someone is telling you that you snore and you feel tired in the middle of the day or have difficulty concentrating because of lack of sleep, it’s time to seek treatment for your snoring and sleep apnea.”
Because Dr. Badi treats issues related to otolaryngology and sleep apnea, patients can easily be seen at a single location, rather than going from appointment to appointment to seek treatment of two often-related fields of medicine. “It is rewarding for me to have my patients finally get the relief and sleep they need, and for their spouses to get the rest they need,” he says. “Treatments for snoring and ear, nose, and throat issues can be life changing.”
Dr. Badi’s passion for the health of his patients led him to continue his education and obtain his Ph.D. in bioengineering. This resulted in a highly-prized grant from the National Institutes of Health which he used to advance the medical field in cochlear and brainstem implants at the Center for Neural Interfaces at the University of Utah. Because of his extensive education, Dr. Badi continues to collaborate with researchers and engineers to provide better treatment options for patients who suffer from snoring and sleep apnea. He is an active participant in both the medical and local community, serving as a member of the American Board of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery and Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics for Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in Pediatric Pulmonology & Sleep Medicine.
