The 6,000-acre Great Trinity Forest is the largest urban hardwood forest in the United States. This means you’re going to need some help navigating it. The Trinity Audubon Center, opened in 2008, helps you do just that through interactive exhibits, four miles of nature-viewing trails, the Children’s Discovery Garden, and educational programs. The center was designed by architect Anthoine Predock, and it is the first LEED-certified building constructed by the City of Dallas Parks and Recreation Department, thanks to a vegetated roof, rainwater collection system, and recycled materials. Dozens of species of birds are visible from the center, which makes it a great place for birdwatchers.
