The Belo Mansion has a rich history. Colonel Alfred Horatio Belo, the founder of the Dallas Morning News, built the mansion in the late 1880s, which was modeled after the family’s home in North Carolina. The mansion stayed in the Belo family until 1977, when the colonel’s granddaughter sold it to the Dallas Bar Association. The Dallas Bar completed two additions to the home, including a 7,000-square-foot, glass-roofed atrium and pavilion in 2003.
