Profile

When David Terry decided he’d spent enough time in a courtroom as a trial attorney, he began to pursue his passion for the arts full time. In June 2007, he opened the Cedars Art Gallery on Akard Street, displaying works from more than 20 different artists. The gallery’s selection of representational art usually consists of portraits and realistic scenes from nature, while abstract works are often colorful pieces more open to interpretation. Although most of the art in the gallery is done on canvas, works of sculpture, photography, glass art, and jewelry are also part of the repertoire.

David Terry teaches a series of classes designed to help artists overcome issues that arise while learning the techniques of oil painting. Classes meet weekly for two hours and are open to artists of all skill levels. Cedars Art Gallery also hosts workshops and life drawing groups, and the space is available for special events. There’s a full kitchen on site, and the gallery’s porch affords views of downtown Dallas.
