WingSpan Theatre Company is nothing if not reliable. With the mission of producing plays written by or about women, WingSpan has trained its audience to know what to expect each year — one main stage show, one reading of a new play, and a production at the Festival of Independent Theatres.
WingSpan Theatre Company is known for producing untapped gems by major playwrights including Edward Albee, Tennessee Williams, Lanford Wilson, and Caryl Churchill. The company got its start in 1997 with a version of the one-woman play The Last Flapper by William Luce. Two years later, WingSpan became a founding member of the Festival of Independent Theatres, which has featured a WingSpan production every year for more than a decade. WingSpan’s third producing component is a a two-day Staged Reading Workshop, focusing on the development of both local and regional playwrights.
