Classical ballet might seem a little stuffy to some, but the Texas Dance Theatre brings this elegant art form to life with a style all its own. TDT is a small, nonprofit group with its own troupe of classically trained ballet dancers. And while its size is reflected in the show schedule—there are typically only a handful of public performances each season—it doesn’t take away from the quality. TDT, which resides in Fort Worth’s Scott Theatre, has done the simple, elegant performances set to orchestra music that are synonymous with classical ballet. But the group thinks outside the box as well, choreographing unique dances to decidedly different genres (think fusion jazz) in front of abstract backdrops that can border on psychedelic. TDT is also heavily focused on education, performing frequently in schools and offering demonstrations, workshops, and master classes.
