Since 1993, Lyric Stage has been dedicated to preserving the American musical. The city’s only locally produced musical theater company has been showered with praise and awards while producing 17 world premieres, two off-Broadway musicals, and dozens of other shows during its run.
Lyric Stage performs shows such as West Side Story, Bye Bye Birdie, and The King and I in Carpenter Hall at the Irving Arts Center, which even has an orchestra pit to accommodate live music accompaniment (Lyric Stage takes full advantage). Each season consists of about five musicals with relatively short runs. Often shows only play for consecutive weekends before Lyric Stage moves on to their next production.
The Lyric Stage School of Performing Arts offers professional training and fosters creativity in children of all ages. Starting at age 4, kids can sign up for creative drama courses, while third-graders through adults can get started in specialized acting and musical theater classes.
