Dr. Chhana grew up in Burleson, Texas, and attended Baylor University where he double majored in Biology and Medical Humanities. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree with High Honors and a Distinction in Research from the University of Texas Health San Antonio, where he also served as class Vice President and received numerous awards for leadership and academic excellence. He presented his research on Autophagy in Vancouver at the International Association for Dental Research and at the San Antonio Symposium.
Following dental school, Dr. Chhana completed a three-year residency program at the University of North Carolina Adams School of Dentistry, earning both a specialty Certificate in Periodontology and a Master of Science after conducting research on autogenous tooth transplantation. Following residency, he earned one of the highest honors in our specialty, Board Certification in Periodontics, by the American Board of Periodontology. His training encompassed all aspects of surgical and non-surgical periodontics, including treatment of periodontal and peri-implant diseases, bone and soft-tissue regeneration, tooth transplantation, IV sedation, surgically facilitated orthodontics, and complex implant procedures. Dr. Chhana currently serves as adjunct faculty in the Periodontal Graduate Program at the University of North Carolina Adams School of Dentistry, driven by a commitment to teaching and staying at the forefront of evidence-based periodontal and implant related care.
As a self-proclaimed sushi connoisseur, Dr. Chhana enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and discovering new restaurants. He also enjoys playing pickleball and watching all his favorite sports teams – go Cowboys!
