Half Price Books was born in Dallas in 1972 in a former laundromat by Ken Gjemre and Pat Anderson, who stocked that first store with 2,000 titles from their own libraries. Today, Half Price Books has locations in 16 states, where they buy and sell used books, CDs, DVDs, and more. (In Dallas, only the Northwest Highway location accepts donations.) These stores regularly hold open mic nights, workshops, and book clubs. The Black Forest Cafe serves coffee, pastries, and other snacks, and the Community Room is available for rent.
Note: the hours listed here are for the Northwest Highway location. Please check the Half Price Books website for other store hours.
