  • Best of Big D: Best Vintage Clothing Store ( 2010 )

Profile

This cozy little vintage store in a well-restored wood farmhouse—replete with historical marker—has been around longer than buying vintage has been a fashion must-do. The interior is spic-and-span clean, and each rack of clothing is neat and orderly. The right front room is filled with brocade dresses, rayon blouses, and felt pillbox hats from the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s. The left front room is all about sparkling rhinestone baubles and a few costume-y pieces that would only work well if playing dress-up were in the cards. Men’s clothing—think tons of worn-in cotton concert tees, ’70s blazers and pantsuits, and old cowboy boots—is situated in the back. Everything is cleaned before it’s set out on the floor, so you never have to worry about the typical staleness often associated with vintage.

Update: Ahab Bowen is closed, as of July 31, 2011.
