A native Texan, Dr. Denning graduated with honors from Howard Payne University with degrees in biology and broadcast journalism. He attended medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, where he finished No. 1 in his class. During medical school, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and was awarded Most Outstanding Student in anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, microbiology, immunology, pathology, and laboratory medicine.
Following medical school, Dr. Denning completed his internship in general surgery and residency in neurosurgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston at the world-renowned Texas Medical Center. His neurosurgical training included chief resident positions at some of the nation’s leading hospitals, including The Methodist Hospital, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Ben Taub General Hospital, Texas Children’s Hospital, and the Michael E. DeBakey Veteran’s Affairs Hospital. Following residency he completed a fellowship in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery at New York University Medical Center in New York.
Dr. Denning also underwent a preceptorship in cerebrovascular surgery with Professor Juha Hernesniemi, chairman of neurosurgery, Helsinki University Central Hospital Töölö Hospital, in Helsinki, Finland. His clinical interests include microsurgery of the brain and spine, cerebrovascular surgery, and minimally invasive and complex reconstructive spine surgery, including adult deformity and scoliosis.
