Varicose veins are an equal-opportunity affliction that goes beyond being a mere cosmetic condition. They can affect everyone from 90-pound ballerinas to 200-pound construction workers, from teenagers to grandparents. Aches course through the legs. Muscle cramps wake sufferers in the middle of the night. The skin starts to itch, gets flaky, and becomes discolored.
Dr. Humam Kakish, a board-certified vascular surgeon and chief of vascular surgery at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, has eased this discomfort for thousands of people with varicose veins.
“My goal is to help patients deal with this condition in the most convenient, painless way possible,” Dr. Kakish says. “If varicose veins are not treated, they continue to get worse, causing blood clots, ulcers and bleeding.”
As a board-certified vascular surgeon, Dr. Kakish deals with all aspects of arterial (PAD) and venous diseases. His practice includes the latest in minimally invasive techniques such as balloon angioplasty, stent placement, and endovascular treatment for aortic aneurysms. He utilizes state-of-the-art techniques, including laser treatment, in a soothing, comfortable office atmosphere. The procedures he performs achieve a 98 percent success rate.
“We do all we can to make this as easy as possible for our patients,” Dr. Kakish says. “It’s an outpatient procedure. They’re given a mild sedative, and they can even listen to music on headphones while it’s being done.” It is not a lengthy process. “From the minute they walk in the office to the minute they leave, it takes about an hour,” he says.
The well-respected surgeon also successfully treats spider veins—those tiny red and purple blood vessels that are spread out web-like just under the skin. Dr. Kakish has a special interest in treating varicose vein diseases. He has one of the largest varicose vein practices in Dallas-Fort Worth. He offers in-office procedures using laser ablation, radiofrequency, and foam sclerotherapy. He provides a comprehensive vascular evaluation using an on-site diagnostic ultrasound, which makes treatment simple and efficient.
Dr. Kakish, a graduate of Stanford University, served his fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He is a member of the Society of Vascular Surgeons, Texas Medical Association, and Dallas County Medical Society.
Recognized and chosen by his peers as one of the Best Doctors in Dallas in D Magazine for 13 years, Dr. Kakish is known throughout Dallas for his unsurpassed level of care and his use of the latest technological advances in vascular surgery.
Dr. Kakish has offices in Dallas, Plano, and Allen. With multiple office locations, access to treatment has become even more convenient to better serve the patients’ needs.
