Board Certified in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Fernandez has been consistently voted one of Dallas’ Best Doctors since he has been in practice in 1991.  He was born in Brownsville, TX and attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated with a BBA.  He then attended the Southwestern Medical School in Dallas in 1988, and completed internship and residency at Children's Medical Center of Dallas.  Dr. Fernandez is voted “One of the Best Pediatricians in the U.S.” by Best Doctors and is an Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics, Division of Endocrinology at University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.

In 1991, Dr. Fernandez joined the Clinical Pediatric Associates and also became Camp Director of Camp Sweeney, a residential camp for children with diabetes. After more than 60 years of operation, Camp Sweeney where Dr. Fernandez counsels, is regarded as one of the largest and most effective diabetes educational facilities in the world. The Camp Sweeny Foundation continues to be his passion outside of his practice. In 2017, he received the Texas Pediatric Society Distinguished Service award. In 2019, he received the Dallas Historical Society’s Award for Excellence in Community Service.

The pediatric office of Dr. Fernandez provides routine well child and same day sick appointments for patients from birth to 21 years of age.  Visits for illness can be scheduled for the same day and well visits can be scheduled in advance.  His office would be happy to visit with any expecting mothers to answer questions or concerns they may have!  Just call to schedule a prenatal newborn conference with Dr. Fernandez and his caring staff at Clinical Pediatrics Associates.
