Dr. Bryce Benbow is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon who specializes in endoscopic and minimally invasive surgery for comprehensive treatment of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. He provides the most advanced techniques and cutting-edge technology in caring for his patients. His use of the Microcision endoscopic techniques minimizes damage to soft tissues and muscle, eliminates the need to remove bone or ligaments, and essentially eliminates postoperative scarring thus minimizing postoperative pain and recovery time.... This allows patients to return to an active pain-free lifestyle much quicker.
Dr. Benbow prides himself on his conservative and personal approach to patient care. Surgery is only considered as a last option and all other conservative measures such as physical therapy, chiropractic treatments, medication therapy, and injection therapy must be exhausted before surgery is considered. If surgery is necessary, then each patient must undergo a comprehensive state-of-the-art pain mapping process to accurately determine the precise cause and location of the pain. This comprehensive process facilitates the least amount of surgery possible and improves patient outcomes with less postoperative pain and quicker recovery times. It is this personalized approach that has earned Dr. Benbow numerous awards including the Patients’ Choice Award four years in a row (2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011) and Compassionate Doctor Recognition.
Dr. Benbow was the first surgeon in the Dallas/Fort Worth area to successfully perform endoscopic spine surgery with a 3mm incision. This procedure is done under sedation without the risks of general anesthesia. There is minimal blood loss, no scarring, and a quick return to activities. Dr. Benbow has extensive experience with endoscopic surgery and is a pioneer in the field. He continues to expand his abilities with completion of an endoscopic preceptorship in Germany and Holland with the creators and early pioneers of endoscopic spinal surgery.
Dr. Benbow completed a fellowship in spine surgery at the Los Angeles Spine Surgery Institute with Drs. Robert Watkins and Lytton Williams, formerly of the famed Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic. During his one-year fellowship, Dr. Benbow focused on sports-related spine injuries in professional and collegiate athletes, along with treatment of degenerative spine disorders and minimally invasive treatments involving the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. While in fellowship Dr. Benbow conducted research on the PRODISC®, Artificial Disc Replacement during the FDA study. Prior to his fellowship, Dr. Benbow completed his orthopedic residency and internship, and received his medical degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with honors prior to medical school matriculation.
As an active member of the North American Spine Society and the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, Dr. Benbow remains dedicated to the advancement of minimally invasive and endoscopic spine surgery as a scientific advisor to several spinal implant companies, as well as proctoring newly trained endoscopic spine surgeons.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Benbow cherishes his free time with his wife and three children. He also enjoys an occasional round of golf.
