White Rock Lake

Profile

White Rock Lake is a Dallas institution. Built as a reservoir in 1911, intrepid city dwellers quickly discovered that not only was it a good water supply, it was an ideal place for outdoor sport. Fishing was legalized, the road was built, jogging paths were installed. But in the ’50s, the White Rock began a period of decline that has only recently seen improvement, thanks in part to the For Love of the Lake community organization. As the park heads into its centenniel, guests can enjoy a leash-free dog park at Mockingbird Point, picnic areas, places to bird watch, and hike and bike trails.
