Life in Deep Ellum, a new cultural center that opened on Taylor Street in 2007, is home to a handful of gathering places, among them a pair of live music venues, a coffee bar, and an art gallery. This art space, known as Umbrella Gallery, exhibits contemporary works from established local artists such as Kathy Lovas, Du Chau, and Charles Siler as well as experimental and emerging artists. Exhibits run for a month and are often accompanied by receptions that give you an opportunity to meet the artist. Mokah also hosts live music performances and open mic poetry.
