Texas Fire Museum

Profile

The Texas Fire Museum opened in 1999 to preserve the historic Dallas Fire Department Maintenance Facility on Chalk Hill Road. The museum has an ever-changing collection of vintage equipment spread out over several buildings on the site. Compare current firefighter uniforms to old silver ones that look like space suits. See the differences in hoses and nozzles as they evolved from the turn of the 20th century to the 1970s. Or check out the dozens of sirens, beacons, and axes.

The museum also has a massive collection of antique trucks and apparatus, from a bright red 1918 ALF Speedster to a ’55 ALF 700 Series complete with tiger stripes. The collection totals somewhere near 60, so the museum is constantly rolling trucks in and out to keep the exhibit fresh. The Texas Fire Museum also has an active restoration program.
