As the oldest bakery in the city, Stein’s recipes date back to the 1940s, lending a traditional quality to its cakes, cookies, petits fours, pies, and Danish pastries. Current owners Owedia and Juan Alvarado have modeled 3-D kids’ cakes after some unusual inspirations–hamburgers, Lego blocks, frogs, teapots–even crafting a three-tiered creation after the board game Candy Land. Cakes come in 10 flavors, including carrot, lemon, and Italian cream. A basic one-third sheet cake is $34.
