Owen Arts Center

Profile

Located on the SMU campus, the Owen Arts Center is a hub for visual and performing arts of all kinds, housing a number of venues, classrooms, and rehearsal spaces that host events year round. Patrons can often find art exhibitions at the Doolin Gallery, where SMU’s Student Art Association puts on competitions, shows, and sales. Caruth Auditorium is a 490-seat concert hall that features the 3,681-pipe C.B. Fisk Opus 101 organ. The Owen Arts Center also has three separate spaces for theater. The largest is the Bob Hope Theatre, which has room for nearly 400 guests, and the hydraulic orchestra pit makes it ideal for dance, opera, and music performances. The Greer Garson Theatre, which resembles London’s famous Globe Theater, has a thrust stage that extends into the seating area. The Margo Jones Theatre is a black box space that is ideal for intimate performances.
