Profile

Depending on who you ask, the idea for a park over Woodall Rodgers Freeway might have originated in the 1960s, around the time when Mayor Erik Johnson insisted the highway be built under rather than below ground. Either way, the freeway’s design got some folks to thinking around 2002, and a public-private partnership was formed to fund what would become a $110 million project.

The 5.2 urban green space serves to connect the Uptown and downtown neighborhoods of Dallas, and offers an array of daily activities—everything from yoga to mah johngg lessons. Food trucks, full-service dining, and festivals draw crowds. Kids will love the playground, child-friendly events and shows, and a fountain to run through on sunny days.
