Profile

The International Museum of Cultures doesn’t deal with ancient history. In fact, the museum focuses on contemporary cultures and existing communities in far-reaching corners of the globe. Developed by SIL International, the largest nongovernmental linguistics research group in the world, the International Museum of Cultures draws information from traveling missionaries.

Exhibits include “Drumbeats of the World,” where you can see drums from North and South America, Africa, Asia, and Australia. Discover the rich history of the Philippines in “Philippine Acta”; learn about the Lakota Sioux and other tribes in “Native Americans”; or check out spears, arrows, and blowguns in the “Primitive Weapons” exhibit. The Margaret and Trammell Crow Gallery highlights art and customs of cultures from Oceania to the Amazon, and the museum typically hosts about one special exhibit each year.
