Grapevine Vintage Railroad

Profile

The Grapevine Vintage Railroad is a worthwhile attraction itself–riders travel in either an 1896 steam locomotive (named “Puffy”) or a 1953 GP-7 diesel locomotive with Victorian-style coaches. But it’s the train’s destinations that really provide the action. After riding the rail for an hour and a half from Grapevine to the historic Stockyards in Fort Worth, you can tour the Stockyards District for a few hours–a trip that includes plenty of restaurants, bars, shopping, and other entertainment–until the train departs again. Alternatively, you can begin your trip in Fort Worth and make the one-way trip to Grapevine in the evening to check out the city’s vineyard, wineries, shopping and food (the Gaylord Texan Resort and the Grapevine Opry are both destinations worth checking out). The Railroad also offers the Trinity River Run, which gives passengers an hour-long scenic journey along the Trinity River, and activities like the Jazz Wine Trail, that includes samples of Texas wines and jazz music. Every weekend between Thanksgiving and Christmas, the Grapevine Vintage Railroad transforms into the North Pole Express, taking you on a voyage that includes caroling, stories, and even a visit from Santa Claus.
