Profile

Founded in 2007 by British pop star George Michael and his partner, Kenny Goss, this gallery aims to expose visitors to British contemporary art. With about 500 pieces from 75 different artists, all created in the 20th and 21st century, the Goss-Michael Foundation is easily the most complete and extensive collection of contemporary British works in the city.

The foundation highlights specific artists in exhibitions that rotate quarterly, along with featured works from the Goss-Michael private collection and, on occasion, other institutions like the Rachofsky House. Works from notable artists such as Damien Hirst, Sarah Lucas, and Richardson Patterson have graced the walls and floors of the gallery.

The Goss-Michael Foundation is extremely active in supporting young, aspiring artists, holding annual student art contests in photography, painting, and drawing, and offering numerous art scholarships each year. Goss-Michael also has a library and archive available to students by appointment, and the gallery occasionally hosts lectures and talks with British artists, which are open to the public. Guided tours of the gallery are available by reservation only for groups of 10 to 25.
