Dallas Puppet Theater

Profile

Most people think of puppet shows as child’s play. And that’s just how the Dallas Puppet Theater wants it. Offering an array of productions designed specifically for ages 2 and up, this nonprofit organization provides an awesome afternoon distraction for antsy tots and their parents. Shows stay within range of a kid’s short attention span, usually lasting just under an hour. Many of the stories told on stage come from the published works of the famous Brothers Grimm, including classics such as Hansel and Gretel, Rumpelstiltskin, and Cinderella. Because the shows are designed for younger children, DPT does its best to keep shows light by turning villains into comic relief and limiting their scary side.

After putting on upward of 250 shows a year for nearly two decades, the DPT has slowed its pace a bit since settling into the AT&T Auditorium at the Women’s Museum in Fair Park. Now the schedule is on a cycle, starting up a new production every four  to six weeks. Shows usually run for three weekends, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. DPT can be booked for birthday parties, school functions, and other special events, bringing a musical marionette show that is sure to keep kids smiling.
