Profile

When the famed Angelika Film Center, located on Houston Street in New York’s Greeenwich Village, decided to open branches around the country, the first to open was Angelika Dallas. That helped transform Dallas into one of the nation’s best markets for foreign and independent film. With eight screens, comfortable stadium seating, great sound systems, and a cafe serving wine, beer, and light dinners before each show, watching a film at the Angelika is a far cry from the sticky-floor megaplexes.

Every Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon, new parents are invited to attend Crybaby Matinee, where a screaming baby doesn’t elicit eye rolls or angry glares from other moviegoers. The Angelika keeps the lights dimmed and the volume low, while providing a changing table for fussy tots. On Student Tuesdays, a student ID gets you a movie ticket and a bottomless tub of popcorn for $8. It’s easy to have a great date night at the Angelika as well. For $23, the Dinner and a Movie combo includes a film, chips and salsa, entree, churro, and soft drink from neighborhing Urban Taco. The Angelika also has free watching parties for select television shows and local sporting events.
