In June 1980, the Turtle Creek Chorale performed for the first time, gathering 83 singers for a concert in SMU’s Caruth Auditorium. Three decades later, the all-male choir is still performing everything from operatic masterpieces to Broadway’s biggest hits. The TCC, which now has more than 200 singing members, has recorded 38 albums, twice performed in Carnegie Hall, and toured European cities such as Barcelona, Berlin, and Prague. The chorale is split into a number sub-groups, including the Chamber Chorus, made up of about 50 singers, and a small, 16-member ensemble called ENCORE! The TCC also has the New Texas Symphony Orchestra, which is the first out gay, lesbian, straight, bisexual, and transgender symphony in the Southwest. The TCC primarily performs at the Meyerson Symphony Center, but with as many benefit performances as the chorale offers (which can reach up to 50 in a year), it often ventures to other venues.
