Echo Theatre

In Greek mythology, Echo was a nymph who loved the beauty of her own voice. But when it was taken from her by the goddess Hera, she could no longer speak for herself, but was instead doomed to repeat the words of others. That’s the inspiration behind the name of Echo Theatre, whose mission is to unearth the power of the female theatrical voice. The group got started in 2007, when Linda Marie Ford, Pam Myers-Morgan, and Suzy Blaylock began to sow the seeds for a theater company that could serve as a platform for established and aspiring female playwrights. Within a year, Echo Theatre was up and running in Dallas, staging Heather McDonald’s Dream of a Common Language in August of 1998. Since then, dozens of plays penned by women have hit Echo’s stage. Recently the company has produced an average of three programs per year that run for two to four weeks at a time, and most performances happen in the Bath House Cultural Center on the shores of White Rock Lake.
